Grade 7 - HOGS - Hi my name is Sylvia Sanders. I started showing when I was in 3rd grade. I wanted to show pigs because my whole family showed pigs. I chose pigs especially because I want to raise a good quality meat hog. My uncle built a brand-new barn to keep them safe. I have learned how to feed a good nutritional diet to my hog for the best growth and weight management. This way I can closely monitor their weight. I walk my pig every day. I also brush him every day. I have learned that a good feeding program makes a better market animal. This year my pig had minor injury and my veterinarian taught me how to doctor his cut. He was fine in a couple of days. My pig has taught me how to be responsible because he depends on me for all food water and all his needs. My family also helps me and teaches me how to care for my pig. My family helps me buy my supplies and food that I need for my pigs. I couldn’t do this by myself.
