Grade 3 - HOGS - My name is Ryleigh Reistino and my project was a gilt for the hog show named Cecile. I chose the name because I heard it in a song and I liked it. This past year I learned it takes a lot of hard work and early mornings to take care of show animals. You can’t take a day off because you are tired. You have to feed them twice a day at the same time everyday. Sometimes even in the morning when it’s still dark outside. Making sure they have a clean pen is very important. My Tyty would scoop the pens and I would push the wheelbarrow to dump the shavings. You also have to practice walking them for the show to carry their head up and weigh them to make sure that the weight is right. I can’t wait to raise them again next year.
