We chose our heifers when it was time to work cows. We separated the heifers we thought would make a good pair to sell together. I purchased two heifers from my grandpa. In order to show and sell them we had to take them to the veterinary to get shots and be tagged in. When we brought them home, we put them in the pens we rented from my grandpa. He had a bulk feeder for feed and automatic water for drinking. They also had a hay ring for hay. When the feed runs low a feed truck refills the feeder. We have to make sure they don’t run out of feed or water. Before the sell, we have to get them palpated so we know they are open and not bred. For this project, I had to keep a record book of everything I done for my heifers. I studied for the interview, but the interview was canceled because of corona virus. Studying helped me raising heifers and understanding the cattle industry. This project has taught me about what it takes to raise heifers for sale to become mother cows. I am looking forward to doing this again next year and hopefully I will get to go to the fair. This year has been different than last year because of the corona virus. I am very grateful for the opportunity to get to sell my heifers. I want to thank everyone who worked to put this together.
