Grade 7 - HOGS -Hi my name is Cheyenne Elliott. I have been showing pigs since I was nine years old and in those years I have loved each and every one of my pigs. Over the last four years I have learned a proper feeding program to develop amazing market hogs. There have so many things that I know now about pigs that I didn’t know before I started showing. Such as nutrition for my pigs and breeding and selling them. I also show commercial heifers with hopes that someday I will have my own herd of cattle. I am thirteen years old and I am taking a veterinary assistant class to learn even more about all animal species. I feed my pigs twice a day. I walk them every day and brush them twice a day. I have carefully monitored the growth of my hogs, including the amount of feed my pigs consume and how much each animal weighs. My breeder hog weigh’s 226 pounds. Every year that I show I learn more about my animals. I couldn’t do it without my breeder my mom my friends and our ag leaders. I know that showing animals isn’t always easy but at the end of the show year your left with a feeling of gratitude. Even though I grow a strong connection with my animals I know that they are raised for excellence in the meat market. That’s why I don’t get upset when it’s time to get rid of my hogs. Because I know that I am raising quality market hogs.
