The Cano’s have a great history with STAR and have invested hundreds of VOLUNTEER hours helping serve over 8,000 people at the last eight STAR GALAS. It all started with a Donation Buck Hunt that La Muneca donated to the Hidalgo County 4-H Foundation Hoedown. James’s Mother in law won the hunt and gave it to her grandson Andrew. He came out with his Dad James and shot a nice buck on New Year’s Day and after processing, taking photos and loading the buck, we got to talking about our favorite foods. James brought up the fact that his family had one of the All Time Best Pan de Campo recipes. We invited him back out and within three hours we were tasting the best Pan de Cano as we call it now that we had ever eaten.
The first STAR GALA was a few weeks later at the La Muneca Show barn and James volunteered to serve this delicious bread as an appetizer. Benny got involved and the next thing you know we were selling this same meal we are offering today for the first time ever. It sold for $1,750 and we were able to sell two. Since then it has sold for over $3,750 at some auctions and has helped the Cano’s to raise over $100,000 for different charity events. It has helped STAR raise over $40,000. The dinner is really yummy but the Pan de Cano is out of this world. It has been served at family reunions, quincenieras, wedding receptions, skeet shoots and ranch galas. Buyer is responsible for the beverages.
Benny is past STAR Board Chairman, James has been on the STAR GALA Board since day one. Sonia has run the books at the STAR GALA since day one. Sharon is our photographer and ALL of their kiddos pitch in where and whenever needed. No families have worked harder for the Success of STAR and the STAR GALA and this is why the 2019 STAR GALA was dedicated to their two families.
