Many will not remember the 1977 born +WD’s 78 that was bred by Leslie “Bubba” Hudgins, owned by Dr. James P. Wood, shown by Clyde Goudeau, and now owned by VIT Ranch. +WD’s 78 had a successful show career (when both colors showed together) but more importantly was a superior sire as validated by him reaching the ABBA Register of Renown. Although 78 was influential in the USA he was even more significant in South Africa. WD’s 78 was likely ahead of his time as he would fit into today’s breeding system extremely well due to his stout build, growth, volume, and muscle. It should also be noted that today he ranks in the top 5% of the breed for BW and 4% for Milk which should come as no surprise as one of his strengths was always the superiority of his daughters. We’ve been sworn to secrecy but can reveal that in the Spring of 2021 a progressive RED Brahman breeder will have offspring from +WD’s 78 with one of the most popular cows in the breed!
