Grade 3 - BROILERS - Hello my name is Mason Cornelius. Being my first year to participate in the upcoming fair I learned so much about how to raise broilers. It started as we prepared for the arrival of our chicks. We cleaned disinfected and in preparation for our day old chicks we put down clean shavings added a brooding ring heat lamps and plenty of feeder and waterers. Going to the poultry clinic helped me learn how to prepare for the arrival and what to expect during this 6-week process. I’ve learned how critical their temperature must be especially the first week after arrival. Learning to keep fresh water, keeping plenty of feed and a clean housing at all times has taught me responsibilities and how to be accountable.
Learning how critical each week becomes a huge part of their growth and depended on my dedication and commitment. Unfortunately, my project has been cut short due to the COVID-19 interruption. This has taught me that no matter how hard you work and invested in your project, uncontrollable changes could happen. I want to thank the RCFA for all the support during this difficult time and for continuing to do what’s best for our youth and my fair project.
