Here at V8 we believe in focusing on powerful cow families, yet are always thinking ahead on how to create breeding pieces that fit the needs of the industry. Hands down our best polled cow family is the 98 cow family. After Miss V8 100/7 (our polled female) won the National Championship, we mentioned to John Locke how it would be exciting to breed Elmo to some of our polled cows. With the Elmo semen being so exclusive, they agreed to partner with us only if we would use the semen on our polled females…nothing horned. Mr. V8 279/7 is the first and only polled Elmo son to sell in the USA… and he is SMOOTH polled. This bull is one that we debated long and hard about selling, but ultimately we decided that if we really are serious about polled cattle improvement in the breed, then he is one we had to offer. These genetics alone are extremely rare and ones that don’t usually get out of JDH or V8 herds. His dam is Miss V8 510/6, who is also the mother of Miss V8 100/7, the first and only polled grey female to win the U.S. National Championship. The bottom side of this bull is arguably the most famous polled cow family in the world, producing other herd sires like Mr. V8 135/7 “The Butler”, Mr. V8 139/7 and Mr. V8 51/6. The sire, +JDH Mr. Elmo Manso, sired by Lawford, is a former National Champion bull and went in the Register of Renown this year. Elmo is clearly one of the top Brahman herd sires - both red and grey – in the U.S. and worldwide. This bull is so unique in so many ways that he is an instant asset and herd builder for any breeder who is seriously interested in polled cattle. He is an outstanding herd sire prospect because of his outstanding phenotype and genotype, with the smooth polled feature being an added bonus. V8 Ranch and JDH Locke Division are retaining the option to collect 200 units of semen at a later date at our expense and the buyers convenience. This semen will only be used for in herd use.
